Training from BWN

New Relationship Strategy Course Held in China

On July 24 and 25, a new training program entitled “Effective Relationships and Influencing” was held at the Bata Training center in Guangzhou. Over 14 members of staff took part, from Bangladesh, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya.

The new two-day program has been designed with the objective of giving participants a range of specific skills, behaviors and attitudes necessary to create effective relationships, and obtain the desired results without having to rely on the use of authority.

The goal of the program is to increase self-awareness and self-effectiveness from a relationship point of view, taking into consideration people's diverse behavioral styles, in order to apply the correct approach to influence other people.

The first day of the course, entitled “Effective Relationships: Disc Model” was facilitated by Elena Rizzo, head of training for Bata. During the course, the participants discovered four styles of behavior, explored the general preferences of their own style and how to recognize the styles of other people, as well as examining how to adapt communication to fit different styles.

Rizzo commented: “I had the pleasure of teaching a highly interactive and participative class. The group approached the topics with the right attitude and with a high level of enthusiasm; it has been a pleasure to share the knowledge with them.”

The second day was focused on influencing others, and was facilitated by John Dorris, who has over 14 years' experience as one of China’s leading experts in cross-cultural solutions. During the course, participants explored and identified the qualities needed to develop non-position-based influence. Through highly participative training methods, the participants learned what makes someone influential, and how to build those qualities to deal with real life situations, and how to put them into practice.

Meiriana Magdalena, a Bata Industrials Indonesia brand manager, commented: “I would like to say thank you to everyone who provided the training over the last two days. This was truly informative and extremely useful in helping me to clarify various details regarding career and business advancement at Bata, especially for the Bata Industrials team in Indonesia.”

Nora Zhanda, a human resources management trainee from Zimbabwe, stated: “It has been a tremendous opportunity attending the “Effective Relationships and Influencing” training course. This course has equipped me with the tools to develop effective relationships and productive environments in the workplace and in my personal life. I was most fascinated with the individual assessments, which have helped to give rhyme and reason to my natural behavior and those of others.”
