From September 13 to 15, Bata Malaysia hosted a course on Negotiation Skills at the Bata Training Academy in Kuala Lumpur. Negotiating is a vital part of working life, as well as an important tool in terms of personal development, and the course gave participants insight into how to negotiate more effectively.

A total of 10 participants attended the course from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, including interior designers, buyers, representatives from real estate, leasing managers, NRSD managers and district managers.

Paolo Grassi, country manager of Bata Malaysia, discussing the reasons for holding the course in Malaysia, commented: “We are proud to host this training workshop in Kuala Lumpur. This course is very important, as negotiation is part of our everyday life.”

The aim of the workshop was to provide the necessary tools in order to plan for, and successfully negotiate, deals that benefit both parties. The course provides an understanding of the fundamentals of negotiation, communication and influencing skills, as well as helping participants understand the various modes and phases of negotiation. It also demonstrates how to identify the negotiables, and how to plan a successful negotiation.

Tricia Tan Cui Ying, senior buyer for Bata Singapore, gave her thoughts on the workshop after the course, saying: “The negotiation course is a very interesting course that allows us to learn and understand the different techniques of negotiation thorough various activities. The role play on the last day is a very good way to summarize the whole course.”

Romeyo Ongkosing, senior human resources executive for Bata Malaysia, added: “I’d like to add that negotiating is not something to be avoided or feared: it is an everyday part of life.”
